Used as a buffer layer; for filling joints between carbonaceous blocks, or filling the gap between carbon bricks and the shell.

Description

Carbonaceous paste is divided into cold ramming paste and hot ramming paste.
  • Cold ramming carbonaceous paste is a cathode paste that can be installed directly at room temperature (8°C to 25°C). It uses calcined anthracite, metallurgical coke, and crushed graphite as aggregates, with a mixture of low-softening-point coal tar pitch and coal tar as the binder. This material belongs to the carbon materials used for aluminum electrolysis and is primarily used to fill gaps between cathode carbon blocks in aluminum electrolyzers, blast furnaces, and other industrial furnaces. It requires no heating during installation and emits no harmful tar fumes.
  • Hot ramming carbonaceous paste requires an installation temperature of 110°C ± 10°C, while the carbon mortar within the hot ramming paste is applied at 60°C ± 10°C. Based on the particle size of the aggregates and the size of the gaps being filled, these materials are classified into: Fine seam paste: Used for bonding carbon seams less than 2 mm wide. Wide seam paste: Used for filling larger gaps and ramming carbon cushions. Based on the application area, they are further divided into: Peripheral paste (for perimeter zones); Interblock paste; Steel rod paste.

Application Used as buffer of aluminium electrolysis cell, or monolithic linings for small scale electrolysis cell. Fill the gaps among carbon blocks and furnace shell. Fill the wide gaps between the bottom carbon blocks and the side carbon blocks, and also gaps between refractory bricks (castables). Fill the gaps between the bottom carbon blocks. Fill the small gaps between the carbon blocks.
